I am back!

Dear friends, sorry for being so "absent". Nothing bad happened, I just needed time to think and think. Well, I would like to share some photos from Horto Florestal in São Paulo City in Brazil. After not going there for almost 4 years I got a bit upset; dirty lakes and a impression that the place was abandoned. Some old trees removed and where are they? No one says. Well, anyway, it is a nice place to go on Sunday morning.

Campfire in Saint John Parties

Festas Juninas or June Parties are very common in Brazil. Last weekend I went to a campfire near a friend´s house, but I haven´t had the photos yet. However, I would like to post tonight because today it is the Saint John´s Day and it would be appropriate write something here. Firstly, the food of June Parties are marvellous ....matching to the winter here in Brazi. Secondly, in a big city as São Paulo city, families and friends prepare a campfire where people eat, sing and dance around it. In outskirts it is very commom to see campfires here and there in some houses. It is really warm, funny and romantic!

winter in São Paulo

Winter just will start next 23th June, but the temperatures here have been about 13 to 18 Celsius degrees. It is seems warm for my European friends, but for a tropical country is really cold. In fact, our winter is really "humid". Under a blanket and two duvets I felt myself, last week, as a new born baby...I couldn´t move myself with the burden of duvets. By the way, central heating is not so common here. However, food is perfect good in winter, especially Brazilian food.

It is nice to have a hobby to deal with the stress of life. I like painting in the wood for useful things such as small notebooks, boxes for fake jewels and true jewels. It is like writing, it is a catarse. Have a nice week!

I went to the nearest Museum from my house, in São Paulo, yesterday afternoon. And I would like to share 2 pictures with you. The first painting is the Museum Pinacoteca do Estado and the second one is "Porto de Leixões" by Mario Navarro da Costa, a portuguese writer from 1900. Ascension

I apologize to all friends for lack of time to write here. I was looking for a nice picture for us, a picture in which I could think over and write here. Then I would like to show this famous painting from Salvador Dali. It is "The Ascension". We always want ascension in our lives. It can be a better job, better relantionship, anything we want. Nevertheless, when we pursue our objectives with determination and pacience we find out new "other abilities" that were hidden into us. We are more than we think we are. We are more than people think we are. Ascension is not the end, it is part of our journey in one or many aspects in this incredible magical life. Have a nice week, friends.

Chained to the bed, a real story

Lying on an old bed made of iron, Elaine was almost in tears, on the verge of screaming, in despair. She and her partner-to-be, Clocou, were in a typical cheap tiny bedroom in a motel in São Paulo city. Different from The United States, motels, usually situated next to the motorways, are used by lovers who rent a bedrom for four hours to "have fun". Red cotton sheets, mirrors on the roof and on three walls, smell of eucalyptus coming from the sauna in the bathroom, clothes everywhere, a dim red light next to the double sized bed. Suddenly Elaine shouted after looking her reflection in the mirror on the roof, as if she had woken up and smelt the coffee. That was reality, not a fantasie. She hadn´t any control of the situation. Just her short boyfriend. Fantasies have a price as everything in life! Elaine should now that. Anyway, he (now ex-partner to be) was smilling to her. She had had a phantasy in which her partner chained her to the "love bed" due to the fact that she wanted to be controlled by him. After telling him, a month ago, he accepted gladly the challenge buying the chains and making her fantasies come true. So, after listening to her shout, he was puzzled. "What had happened?" he thought, "It was her wish!". Nevertheless, when Elaine got chained, she thought that he would take her and the bed to the river and throw them there. "How, on earth, could you imagine that a 5,09 ft man could remove you and the double-sized bed to a river using a motorbike?" I asked Elaine, this week, when she told me. In fact, she really imagined, at that time, that he could do that. Maybe, Freud or Lacan´s theories could explain "her imagination".I have already read that we have phantasies as a play of a imagination.Besides, we don´t want to make true all our phantasies.Anyway, fantasies are good for our imagination, when we write, when we create anything we want.However, we should be careful to make them true.

More Tarsila do Amaral for everybody!

Although I have written about "hot weather" to post here, after reading many comments, I am convinced that I should write, firstly, more about Tarsila do Amaral, because many people liked the photos posted here, before. Well, if you see Madureira (4th picture) you will notice a kind of "Eifiel Tower" in the middle of a slum area with black people in Rio de Janeiro. Madureira was painted in 1924 when Tarsila came to Brazil in Carnival. This mixing of cultures: she had studied in Paris getting back to Brazil can be understood as a conflict between the two cultures. The mass of colours contrast with the other Tarsila´s paintings where she paints with soft pastels. The theme of A Negra (The black woman, 3rd picture) is connected with Tarsila´s childhood: the slave (the black woman) that feeds the babies, very common at that time in Brazil. So, another part of Tarsila´s biography. We can feel the immobility of the A Negra, her deformation shape, cubism behind the woman, the sad look in her eyes, the Brazilian style. In Antropofagia (2nd picture) there is a matching between Abaporu and A Negra. In Ovo or Urutu (The Egg, first picture) we can feel frightening. However, egg means birthing, something new that comes out. There are so many things to see about Tarsila´s works. Besides, many pictures to gaze at, to enjoy, to keep into ourselves what we have learnt. If someone is interested in Modernism in Brazil (1920`s) read Oswald de Andrade, among other Brazilian authors.

Tarsila do Amaral

I like Tarsila do Amaral´s paintings very much. She took part in Modernism Movement in Brazil, in 20`s. Even today her work is remarkable. Nature and Humanity are together in her work: foot, land, coconut trees in the city, green, sky, cities, more green. In São Paulo we have "few green", just in parks and some neighbourhoods. That is why people are desperate to set out when there is a long holiday. Even a trip to the mountains or to the beach make us over the moon, more well-balanced and self-centred. I notice this in all friends, colleagues and acquaintances. It seems to me that we forget that nature must be part of our lives. Why not more green? Maybe, if we had much more trees in São Paulo city, the rivers wouldn´t overflow after a-forty-minute-rain and there wouldn´t be so much caos at traffic time in summer (almost every day). Green is wanted here, peace of mind, deep relaxation, just green.

Well, I enjoyed my time today sunbathing and reading at club. I am a bit regret because I am completely DARK and some parts "dark red".

But, anyway, 5 days of holidays, why not enjoying a little of much SUN (lol)

Carnival in São Paulo

In Brazil, Carnival is the most exciting relevant annual event which takes place in February or beginning of March. In fact, in Brazil, traditionally, it is celebrated from Saturday until Tuesday, before Ash Wednesday. Its origins are controversial: it is said that the Festival started in Greece, other sources of information say that it started in Portugal where people threw eggs and fair to eachother. Anyway, in 2005, Carnival of Bahia (in the northeast) was considered the biggest “Festival of street” in the world by Guinness Book. While Bahia is famous for “Carnival of street”, in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo there is a big parade in a special closed street, Sambódromo, with a series of flat areas cut out of a hill like wide steps where people watch the event. In the beginning of 20^th Century there were small groups of people in the streets. However, nowadays, there are big well-organized Schools of Samba formed of 5000 people (each School of Samba) that compete eachother to win the first position as the School of Samba which are Big Organizations where participants work for love and dedication.Moreover, they work free of charge, all year, for the joy of one night owing to the fact that the apresentation of each School of Samba takes about 1 hour.Preparations start months before the event. Participants pay for their own special clothes which must be designed and sewed according to the lyric of song of the School of Samba and the central theme, as well. As far as the central themes are concerned, there are many interesting ones such as “Immigration”, “Discovery of Brazil”, “Recycling”. All the decoration of the big cars called Carros Alegóricos, BIG OPEN LORRY, are designed according to the central theme. Moreover, rehearsals start in October when participants are organized, divides in smaller groups to perform samba in Carnival. Although audience have to pay to see the parade, some tickets for special covered rooms called camarotes which are private rooms for 10 or 20 people where you can see the parade comfortably, with food, table, chairs, table, can cost 8.000 Dollars (per night).Anyway, Carnival brings millions of Reais (Real is the coin of Brazil) because of tourism. It was said that about $521 million comes into the city economy.Who never heard about Carnival of Rio de Janeiro? Unfortunately, Carnaval is, sometimes, connected with topics such as beautiful women wearing few clothes. In addition to this, there are special parties in the afternoon for kids in some clubs in the city and special parties in Night Clubs where people can dance samba all night. All in all, São Paulo is quiet and calm tonight. Many people enjoy these days setting off. Beaches are crowded. Nevertheless, city empty, no sound in my usually busy street, marvellous to go to the cinema, to go to the restaurant in. No queues, just PEACE!

Russian tea

Today I had a very good company for the 5 ó clock tea, a nice friend that came from Russia a long time ago invited me to. For those who don´t know, it is very commom to find out a Brazilian person whose parents or relatives came from a foreign country. I had myself a grandfather that came from Portugal. Anyway, I was invited by my friend and I saw many objects from Russia in her house. Objects whose name I don´t remember now. However, each object had its own story, that she told me while he prepared the tea and while we drank it. That made me think that as we grow up and we get older we acquire objects that turn out "history" for us. I came back home and I worked in my living room, surrounded by my books and small old objects that just me, and only me, know its history. Maybe you have a special pair of shoes bought for a special occasion that only you know, a special board for chess, a small collection of elephants from India. Moreover, everything you have in your life tell everything about you, your past, your choices, your dreams, your frustations, your fears and even how your ideas are organized.

rainy weekend

People usually hate rainy day, but after a very hot week, 30 Celsius degrees, a rainy weekend is blessing. This motivates our creativity to write, to listen to good music, to talk to friends, to make a small embroidery, to eat pop corn watching a good film. Anyway, my weekend was suberb.

I am fine, I haven´t been on here, these days, so many things to do.I should have coped with everything in my life so as to write my thoughts and feelings here. In fact, there is an enchanting blog from Clay, http://clayrndarrow.blogspot.com/ and I own up that every night I read his blog and I spend an enjoyed time reading his fabulous writings. The good point is that makes me to think about creating something more concise. My astrologer and friend Izabel told me today that I should write the funny things I say. Many friends say this and I have to face up to that I love writing and it should be a catarse for me and a laugh for us!

An Armenian Lunch

I had a recollection today after trying a little Arak with an old Armenian friend, Arthur. William Saroyan has been on my mind all afternoon, although I have had a very busy day. His delightfull and richly autobiographical novel Human Comedy is very updated, even though it was published in 1943. Nevertheless there has been war or wars in the world and those influence our lives, it is impossible to be ignorant to the facts that we have heard or watched on news. The way that Saroyan wrote about the “war” at that time, maybe, makes us think about Iraq War or even the “small wars” here and there, and how we deal with our feelings. In fact, we can´t pretend we live isolated. But ...coming back to my recollections in this afternoon.... I remembered the main character in Human Comedy: a boy becoming a man in an unordinary wartime and in an unexpected way. Human Emotions: humanity, love, war, money, death.....

I am not sure if age or the experience in life that makes us let go old “things” ...It is so good to let things go...old photos, old clothes, things that don´t match with what WE ARE TODAY...We have been changing, the personality, ideas, news points of view, so many reading and so many social interaction with other pointsof view that makes us think that LIFE IS MORE THAN “THIS AND THAT”. Most of time we don´t notice, maybe it is that kind of reading, kind of music, even the kind of person that doesn´t appeal to you anymore. Some people react and overreact to external changes, world is being changing, the economic situation is being changing. People have change very much. Consequently, we need to be more creative to deal with everything, especially our feelings. Some people grab to old habits, to what doesn´t work in their lives anymore....so it becomes worse, people even can be sick. In addition to this, there are people that just let “things” and “situations” go. Sometimes (in fact, many times I have notice) the best way to dealing to what it is not having to us, to dealing with “NEW” is just “surrender”.

blogging

I haven´t been blogging because I have been on holidays. Nothing special to write, just very hot days, sunbathing and organizing many pieces of paper of English classes. Next week the routine will be back: time, classes, gyms, time, preparation, make up, books, time, new edition of many books, students not interested in learning, time and time. However, yesterday I went to a "contemporay dance" class. It was very strange for me, I am attached to my routines, to rules and the trainer seemed to be detached from everything in life, as if she was a "hippie"...It was a good experience for me to face up to what I really like such as high heels...it is nice to walk with naked foot on the sand on the beach, but I prefer middle nice shoes, not necessarily high shoes all time, but just "shoes". No rules, tattoos, naked feet, dancing to be aware of what you feel. All in all, I will go back to belly dance next week.

I gave up

I gave up. After a happy week with good surprises in my life, a blissful ignorant behaviour made me feel helpless, today. I tried to understand him, I tried to be friend but I was not able enough because there is no communication between us. I don´t like argue, I like having good memories from people. However, there are people that don´t like peace of mind. Unfortunately there are people that say "they are friends", when they just want to argue and war and hurt....

I GAVE UP.....It is not possible to go on a friendship like this.

Sunny Day!

Definetely a hot sunny day doesn´t match with São Paulo. Is is impossible to be confortable in a suit or in social decent clothes. I should be in the mountains where it is usually coller these days! Nevertheless, today it was a remarkable day because I started to write a poem, a poem with rymes to my DARLING.

time and motion study

What a long day! I was able to do everything I had planned, but I really miss him at this time. What would he think about my instinctive answers to some silly questions. I couldn´t evade, he knows that. Although I am a woman, he treats me as if I were a man, unbelievably. I have no idea why. I have already tried to understand but he gaves up, he doesn´t talk to me anymore, he doesn´t comes across suddenly, as an ideal gift, in the middle of night, I had trusted him so much, but he never trusted me. This made me sad many times and now..only now, I strongly believe I gave up before him. It is difficult to understand a timid behaviour. I just wanted to tell him that I had bought a very good book that is making me "understand" him, his strange behaviour, his silence after my words, his anger as reaction to what I always said. Well, I just said many things for him to understand what I was and what I am. However, what was an exchange ideas for me, they were insults as far as he is concerned and Never that I can say will change his stubborn determination to judge me as ignorant. Consequently he ignored me and he has ignored me and maybe I will never talk to him again. He misunderstood everything. While I explained my ideas and personality, he jugde me over and over again until he doesn´t miss me anymore, until he talks to me just 20 minutes, 10 minutes....5 minutes.....1 minute...and then......all the silence is here, although I listen to his songs and feel his smell. Anyway, he just put me in an awkward position. I am really sad, now, because I had a very good day and I just wanted to share with him. I gave up. Good night, my darling! You are always in my heart.
